before you head out, it is cold out there. >> nothing hot about our forecast. good morning, ladies and good morning, everyone. happy friday. hopefully, you had a lovely thanksgiving. starting off cold. many locations in the 20s. most spots are but downtown still 30 degrees and just a very light west southwesterly wind. temperatures in the 20s. 20 in manassas and gaithersburg. frederick, 28 degrees this morning. 23 in culpepper. 22 in lexington park. the headlines this morning, sunny and brisk. much colder than average temperatures in the next several days. good news is quiet weather over the weekend so hopefully, getting home from your thanksgiving plans and everything will be nice and quiet. that's good news. hopefully, things are quiet on the roadways. let's find out into eileen, it is quiet on the roadways.

hammed in loam joeville at a -- in romeoville in a kohl's. he driver was shot and was taken to the hospital along with the officer that was dragged. two other suspects are in custody this morning. >> black friday is off to a safer start, thank goodness is that we're live at west field mall in montgomery this morning. how busy is it? >> at the time pretty busy, especially when you factor in it is 5:00 in the morning. in macy's 155-year history, it opened on thanksgiving for the first time. talking all stores from manhattan to the westfield montgomery mall. doors opened at 8:00 p.m. last night and they will open until 11:00 p.m. tonight. that is 27 hours straight. a lot of work, a lot of shopping. we were here at midnight when most of the 190 stores opened

their doors. we're told there were lines outside of urban outfit ires, eb games. folks waiting in line for upwards of four hours. other stores like old navy and ann taylor, they had 50% off discounts on every time in their stores. this holiday season is six days less than last year so shoppers have limited time and stores have limited time for sales so they're trying to get as many people in here as possible very busy from 10:00 p.m. last night to 2:00 a.m. died down a touch, but people catching their zs expected to be back at 6:00 a.m. you're taking a live look from the mall corridor here. i can see there is a lot of travel and shopping. we will talk to some customers and we will be back to you live around 5:30 asking with a salespeople have found and if it is for them or for folks that they love this christmas. we're told a lot of black friday shopping is for folks that just want to get it for themselves.

you heard some of these big retail stores are opening up on thanksgiving so they're saying they have to work on big holidays. wal-mart, of course, telling a different story saying this is a union-orchestrated pr event. very few wal-mart employees, they say, actually participate in these protests. so what should you expect today? local unions are organizing two events at two local alexandria stores, but again, expect protests from 1500 stores across the country. reporting live in landover hills, hatzel vela, aids abc7 news. >> this story almost the exact opposite. one woman is under fire for her decision to stay closed on black friday. >> what she is saying as corporate demand she

better than ever. the average disis 25% off. this year, holiday sales are expected to total nearly $600 billion. wal-mart employees across the u.s. plan to protest this black friday. one demonstration is set to take plaque inlandover. the past few days, employees rallies out stores. they want more full-time work and a salary of at least $25,000 a year. >> a special holiday honor to the military today. it is inviting all wounded warriors and service men and women and their families to a complimentary dinner and show. cocktails at 5:30. dinner at 6:00. and a performance of "guess who's coming to dinner" at 8:00. as you no doubt know, many retailers opened earlier than ever on black friday into some didn't even wait until midnight to open.

sears stores nationwide opened at 7:00 last night. however, an owner in plymouth, harp hamp, refused an -- new hampshire, refused and to open on thanksgiving. >> to say the dollar is more important than us being with our families, it is ununacceptable. >> the company sent her flowers and cards to show her support. she is prepared to go to court if sears punishes her from her decision. >> that's the second one. the pizza hut guy yesterday that didn't want to open on thanksgiving into it is really such a mixed bag. i've never done the black friday shopping before but i also no so many people it is now a family tradition so it really is, to each his own. if you're shopping, though, i can tell you it is cold. there is no debate on that. it is cold but at least it is

investigator, went into the county jail and recruited gang members to commit crimes. he is behind a drive-by shooting of a police officer, a home invasion and robbery of an illegal marijuana grow. >> a california interstate was shut down. a woman received a call telling her there was bomb in her car. police shut down the interstate while they searched her vehicle. after a couple of hours, her brother called to apologize for the joke. police weren't laughing and arrested the brother. and, a clumsy robbery was all caught on tape. a man entered a convenience store and put a gun to the worker's face and demanded money. he remained calm. >> i dave him the money. let me bag if for you, you know what, you should double bag it i'm just stalling, waiting for them to come.

breaking news just in to the abc7 newsroom. police are investigating an attempted sex assault off central avenue there. they say a man hit a woman as she was taking out her trash and attempted to sexually assault her. as struggle ensighed, the man ran off. they're lacking for a man in his late 20s to early 30s, wearing b jeans and black boots. >> this crash happened at colesville road and university boulevard in silver springs. the officer was not hurt and the crash ask did not happen during a pursuit. >> a florida woman awaiting trial on a stand your ground case is free on bond. she was arrested after firing

what she says was a warning shot. it happened with a fight against her husband. she tried to invoke a fan your ground law but the judge through out the defense claim. alexander must remain in her home awaiting retrial. >> >> and, there is concern north korea could be on the steps towards a nuclear weapons program. we're checking headlines around the world. the national atomic energy agency says they believe they may have started a new clear reactor. it was shut down in 2008 in a confidence-building gesture during international talks. >> and, double and tricking checking to make sure a nuclear damage wasn't injured in an earthquake. it hit about 37 miles from the bashar nuclear plant. iranian media is reporting
